Ideal Hand Books, Lyman Ideal Hand Books, Lyman Reloading Manuals, Lyman Catalogs and other related publications have been used in this study project for several purposes. This section provides a comprehensive list of all publications where references to the subject Model No. 55 Power Measure have been found.

Dating the introduction of specific features and the classification of model changes are the most important uses of the reference material in this study. It must be pointed out that both text and illustrations were used in these documents that extended several years past the introduction of newer hardware. This is more common with illustrations in the earlier publications. It is also noted that publications lead the actual introduction of the actual hardware in many cases.

Doug Elliott and Gene Taylor

One of the key contributors to the wealth of information on this 55Project website is Doug Elliott, shown in the foreground in the photo to the left beside your website host, Gene Taylor. Philo, California 9/2010

Doug's library of Ideal Handbooks, Lyman Catalogs and Miscellaneous advertising literature, along with his seemingly unending attention to detail, have supported making this site so much more than a "picture book". Doug's assistance in sorting out troublesome documentation issues and just plain old technical editing support have been a lifesaver. The chart at the right is a good example of Doug's work. Many of us that studied the Ideal/Lyman products knew about the Catalog/Handbook numbering issue, but Doug's graph made it clear. I just formatted it and pasted it up here.

I am casting a fairly wide net here and possibly over ambitious scope of study but...why not. Initially I wasn't interested in fixed charge measures but have chosen to include them because I like the old Pacific type measures. Also, like the Potter, if a measure was part of a Loader I may be interested in it. The simple "charge bar" shot shell type I am omitting...but open on that subject. Measures must be commercially made and available and not one-off home brew.
